Deadly Bee Sting Leaves Two Family Members Dead in Jharkhand Village
A sudden swarm of honey‑bees turned a routine date‑harvesting trip into a fatal disaster for a family in Latehar’s Mahuaada block. Sarbet Devi, aged fifty, and her three‑year‑old granddaughter were attacked while walking through a forested area near Khapartala. The sting victims suffered severe allergic reactions.
Emergency services escorted the pair to the Mahuaada Community Health Centre, where they received primary treatment. Due to the seriousness of their condition, doctors arranged for immediate transfer to a tertiary care facility in Gumla. The grandmother’s life could not be saved, and the toddler succumbed to the injuries a day later.
The incident has sparked fear throughout the local community, with villagers demanding urgent measures to identify and neutralise aggressive bee colonies that threaten lives in forest‑adjacent zones.
