Dalma Wildlife Reserve Adds Elusive Hawk Moth to Its Biodiversity List

The recent addition of the Greater Deaths Head Hawk Moth to the species inventory of Dalma Wildlife Reserve underscores the area’s ecological importance. Forest wardens expressed particular enthusiasm because the moth is considered one of the world’s most uncommon lepidopterans.

The insect is most active during night hours, fluttering silently before emitting a distinctive chirping sound created by the rapid movement of air through its body. This sound can last for a fraction of a second, roughly one‑fifth of a second, and is a unique identifier for the species.
