Giridih police have successfully apprehended five individuals involved in a sophisticated online fraud operation. The crackdown, led by the cyber police unit, targeted a gang operating in the Gandey police station area. Acting on intelligence received through the Pratibimb portal, which indicated fraudulent activities near the Baghra railway overbridge in Balidih, a special team was formed. This rapid response team, under the supervision of Cyber Station Officer Sub-Inspector Rameshwar Bhagat, swiftly raided the location and made the arrests. The primary suspect identified is Aftab Ansari, a resident of Jamtara, who is believed to be the mastermind. During police interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to their modus operandi, which involved using fake links and applications on mobile phones to deceive victims. They also impersonated bank officials to drain funds directly from people’s accounts. The other apprehended members of the gang include Parvej Ansari, Tafazul Ansari, Tabrez Ansari, and Niyaz Ansari, all hailing from Jamtara and Deoghar. Authorities have seized a total of 12 mobile phones, including three iPhones, and 15 SIM cards from the suspects. Preliminary investigations suggest this network is connected to other cybercriminal elements in Deoghar and Jamtara. The ill-gotten gains were reportedly funneled through fraudulent bank accounts and subsequently distributed as cash among the culprits. District Superintendent of Police Dr. Vimal Kumar emphasized the police’s continuous vigilance against cybercrime, reiterating the force’s zero-tolerance policy for such offenses.
