Constable Niranjan Mahto Dies by Gunshot in Hazaribagh Residence

<p>Hazaribagh: Niranjan Mahto, a constable with the Hazaribagh police who was deployed as the bodyguard of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha district president Sanjeev Bedia, died after being shot. His body was recovered from a house in Uriamari on Thursday morning.</p><p>The house falls within the Barkagaon police station area. Mahto was on duty for the security of the JMM district chief at the time of the incident, officials said.</p><p>Police reported that the body was lying in a room inside the house. The residence was locked from within, which has drawn the attention of investigators. Local police reached the site after being informed and placed the area under security cover.</p><p>To ensure a thorough examination, the Forensic Science Laboratory team was called to the spot. Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar and Barkagaon SDPO Amit Anand also arrived and inspected the scene.</p><p>SDPO Amit Anand stated that the FSL report will guide the next steps in the process. Arrangements were made to send the body for postmortem. For now, it remains unclear how the gunshot occurred.</p><p>Authorities are examining the case from the perspective of both murder and suicide, and the investigation is continuing.</p>
