Ranchi Builders’ Homes Targeted; ₹1 Cr Stolen in Night‑Time Heist

The quiet streets of Ashok Nagar in Ranchi witnessed a bold nighttime robbery that has left residents uneasy. On the evening of July 8, a team of seasoned thieves tried to break into the home of builder Nisheet Kesri. A vigilant security guard opened fire, but the shot ricocheted and injured the guard himself, prompting the criminals to retreat.

Undeterred, the gang shifted focus to a neighboring mansion owned by builder Akhilesh Pandey. Inside, they extracted cash amounting to roughly eight lakh rupees and jewellery with a market value exceeding ninety lakh rupees – gold, silver, and diamond pieces that together amount to nearly a crore rupees.

Investigations revealed the culprits arrived in a lavish Jaguar, its price tag around seventy‑five lakh rupees, imported from Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle was parked close to a hotel at Birsa Chowk where the thieves lodged, using an Aadhaar card whose authenticity is now under scrutiny. Police are sifting through hotel CCTV footage and city surveillance to pinpoint the perpetrators.

The city’s Senior Superintendent of Police ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Team led by the Kotwali ASP. Four police stations are jointly handling the case, and officials report a number of promising leads that could result in arrests in the coming days. The heist has sparked a debate over security protocols in Ranchi’s premium localities.
