Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Seeks Reforms in IR and OSHA Codes
The three‑day All‑India Working Committee of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh concluded on July 28 at Ranchi’s Sarla Birla campus after a series of intensive deliberations on the nation’s labour reforms. Participants from every state reviewed the draft provisions of the four labour codes that the government plans to implement.
The union placed particular emphasis on the Industrial Relations Code (IR Code) and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (OSHA Code). BMS resolved to present a consolidated set of suggestions and objections to the central government, stressing that any amendments must protect collective bargaining rights, prevent unfair dismissals and retain stringent occupational safety standards.
Alongside the code‑specific demands, the committee again pressed for an increase in the EPS pension wage ceiling—from Rs 21,000 to Rs 42,000—citing the growing number of workers who are currently excluded from retirement benefits.
BMS’s stance signals a clear intent to shape the forthcoming labour legislation in a way that reinforces workers’ rights, enhances safety at workplaces, and expands social security coverage.
