Rainfall Below Normal Expected in Jharkhand; Authorities Warn of Lightning and Gusty Winds

Jharkhand has received only 129 mm of rain this month, roughly 45% less than the climatological average of 236.1 mm for the June‑July period. To compensate, the state weather office has issued a yellow alert warning of possible lightning and wind gusts up to 50 km/h.

The shortfall in rainfall has raised concerns for agriculture and water reservoirs, but the forthcoming system is likely to deliver short, intense bursts rather than prolonged precipitation. Western Singhbhum’s Jagannathpur logged the highest one‑day total of 50.4 mm in the past 24 hours.

Temperatures on Sunday peaked at 35.5°C in Daltonganj and held at 30°C in Ranchi. Night‑time lows stayed above 22°C across the state, offering limited respite from the humidity.

Officials advise farmers to monitor field conditions, and the public to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity. Lightning safety measures, such as staying indoors and avoiding water‑conductive appliances, are emphasized.
