Axe Attack Leaves Two Women Dead in Bavaida Village; Suspect Turns Himself In

A tragic axe‑related killing took place on Sunday night in Bavaida, a village under the Dhalabhimgarh police station of Eastern Singhbhum district. Swaroop Tudu, known locally as Chintu, is alleged to have struck his two sisters, Dulari Soren (55) and Lakshmi Mandi (50), with an axe, killing them while they slept.

The two women had traveled to their brother's house to assist with his medical care and to clean the premises. The night also featured a planned puja in the household, with Lakshmi's husband, Surju Mandi, invited but absent.

According to eyewitnesses, Swaroop, who lives alone and has been unwell for several days, had earlier called an Oja from the nearby Ghuncheedh area. When the sisters retired for the night, the accused allegedly launched a brutal assault, leaving both victims dead.

Police arrived swiftly after receiving a call, led by Inspector Deepak Kumar Mishra. They retrieved the victims' bodies, confiscated the axe, and began a forensic examination of the scene. On the following Monday, Swaroop presented himself at the Dhalabhimgarh police station and narrated the sequence of events.

Preliminary leads hint at a possible involvement of a local Oja‑gunmen feud, but the precise motive behind the murders is still under investigation. The affected family consists of two brothers and three sisters; the eldest brother has already passed away, while the youngest sister is married within the community. Authorities continue to gather evidence to determine the exact cause of this double homicide.
