Art Storytelling Takes Center Stage at Dhanbad’s Inaugural National Exhibition

The inaugural National Art Exhibition in Dhanbad turned the spotlight on narrative art. Running from 21 to 23 August, the event offered 65 paintings and 10 sculptures, each accompanied by a storytelling session led by veteran storyteller Colonel Abhi Datta from Kolkata.

Visitors were invited to step beyond the visual elements and explore the deeper meanings embedded in brush strokes, colour palettes and sculptural forms. The storytelling segment explained how each piece reflects societal concerns, personal emotions or abstract concepts.

Organised by the Guild of Fine Art Artists in partnership with local civic groups, the exhibition also featured a three‑day schedule of interactive sessions, including a children’s workshop that taught basic techniques and a final‑day art contest for specially‑abled participants.

According to event coordinator Alok Roy, the blend of visual art and narrative aims to democratise artistic appreciation, making the experience accessible to a wider audience beyond conventional gallery goers.

The exhibition is expected to leave a lasting imprint on Dhanbad’s cultural landscape, encouraging future collaborations between artists, storytellers and the community.
