Alam Hospital Accused of Charging Extra Fees to Bereaved Mother
In a distressing episode from Jharkhand’s Chatra district, Nicky Devi, a mother of four, is confronting Alam Hospital after it allegedly demanded an additional Rs 2,500 for releasing her husband’s corpse.
Shiv Sagar Upadhyay lost his life in a road collision on August 12 in Purulia. The family gathered about Rs 2.5 lakh – the amount the hospital initially quoted – by selling their only livestock.
After the payment, the hospital reportedly halted the handover of the body, citing the extra sum. The staff allegedly harassed the family and asked them to leave the premises.
Local leaders, NGOs and volunteers have been approached for help, as the grieving mother struggles to provide basic necessities for herself and her children while waiting for the final rites.
