4 Dead in Ramgarh Illegal Mining Mishap Due to Poisonous Gas

The dangers associated with illegal mining have resurfaced in Jharkhand as four men lost their lives due to a poisonous gas leak in Ramgarh. The incident took place at a shuttered CCL coal mine in the Ardagga area, where residents often risk their lives to scavenge for coal. Reports suggest that the victims had ventured deep into the hazardous tunnels before inhaling toxic fumes that suddenly filled the shaft. Following the alarm raised by bystanders, a joint rescue operation was launched by district police and CCL personnel. Despite the swift response, the severity of the gas inhalation proved fatal for all four involved. Dr. Harendra Kumar Mahato, Deputy Superintendent of Ramgarh Sadar Hospital, confirmed the four fatalities, noting that the victims were residents of nearby villages. This incident highlights the recurring risks faced by locals in abandoned pits. The district administration has deployed a medical board and magistrates to supervise the legal formalities and conduct a thorough investigation into the breach of the decommissioned site.
