In a disturbing display of mob frenzy, three women were brutally thrashed in Dhanbad’s East Busuriya over unfounded fears of child abduction. This occurred on Wednesday near Nichani Bridge, defying ongoing police appeals for calm amid rising child theft rumors.
What started as a vague suspicion quickly snowballed into chaos. A surging crowd encircled the women, pummeling them mercilessly with punches, slaps, and shoes. The assault was so ferocious that bystanders feared for their lives.
Police arrived promptly upon receiving reports, only to be met with aggression as the mob targeted their jeep with thrown slippers. Braving the hostility, officers managed to extricate the victims and whisk them away to safety at the local outpost.
Speaking to reporters, Baghmara SDPO Purushottam Singh stated, ‘We’re thoroughly checking the child theft claim, but nothing substantiates it yet. People must not believe rumors or resort to vigilantism.’ He stressed the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle suspicions.
This isn’t the first such incident in the region, pointing to a deeper issue of misinformation fueled by social media and word-of-mouth. Experts note that such rumors often exploit parental fears, leading to tragic consequences.
Local administration has launched awareness drives, distributing pamphlets and holding meetings to debunk myths. The injured women are under medical care, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify attackers. Police vow strict enforcement to restore order and trust in the system.
