Jharkhand’s Zhammu Mobilises Rural Booths For Anti‑Cess Campaign

Ranchi, August 20 – The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s central committee resolved to launch an intensive grassroots crusade against the Mineral (Development and Regulation) Research Bill, 2026. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, presiding over the meeting, announced that the party will activate booths across every gram panchayat to inform citizens about the proposed mineral cess.

The discussions covered the bill’s amendments, the new regulatory framework, and the inclusion of a Special Investigation Report (SIR). Participants expressed concern that the central legislation threatens Jharkhand’s fiscal autonomy by siphoning off a share of mining revenue.

Activists will travel village‑to‑village, presenting simple briefings on the bill’s impact and gathering public feedback. The campaign aims to expand from booth‑level dialogues to block‑level gatherings, eventually culminating in a statewide demonstration.

JMM leaders reiterated that the issue transcends partisan politics; it concerns the future of Jharkhand’s mineral wealth and the state’s right to allocate resources for its people. The party is also reaching out to other political formations, community groups, and the broader public to forge a broad coalition against the central proposal.
