Jharkhand Govt Faces Student Demands Over CGL Test Cancellation

The student movement that began sixteen days ago over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment exams has entered a new phase. While the state has acceded to several key demands—including the cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary exam and an ED investigation into vendor finances—it has stopped short of scrapping the JSSC CGL examination.

Students insist that the CGL test be withdrawn entirely, arguing that the alleged malpractices have irreparably damaged its credibility. They have warned that the assembly encirclement scheduled for August 10 will only intensify if their demands are not met.

Government spokespeople maintain that many of the students’ requests have already been incorporated into policy reforms, and that a full cancellation of the CGL paper is impractical. Nevertheless, officials have appealed for an immediate end to the demonstrations, emphasizing the need for dialogue and peaceful resolution.

The protest leader Devendra Nath Mahato, currently on a hunger strike, declined a video‑call invitation from ministers to discuss ending the strike, signalling that the students remain resolute.
