Jharkhand Governor Urges Bold Voices at UNICEF Change Conclave
Ranchi, October 27: At a UNICEF-organised event in Ranchi, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar called on children trained as journalists to speak up about social inequalities and act fearlessly to help resolve them.
The 'Voices of Change Conclave 2026' was held on Tuesday, with the Governor delivering the keynote address as chief guest. He said that when children learn to ask questions and voice their opinions without hesitation, they become effective drivers of change in society.
The Governor observed that children's strong voices can draw the attention of the government and society to the troubles faced by countless children who lack a platform to express themselves.
He voiced deep concern that child marriage, child labour, malnutrition, denial of education, violence against children and the effects of climate change remain serious challenges. Eliminating them, he said, requires government action along with changes in social mindset and practical approaches.
Gangwar advised the young journalists to verify facts before publishing any news or information and to respect the dignity and sensitivity of the people they report on.
He emphasised that while listening to children is important, timely and compassionate solutions to their problems are equally vital. Every child, he said, deserves quality education, better nutrition, healthcare, a secure environment and equal opportunity to progress with dignity. He called on the government, police and administration, educational institutions, families and civil society to share this collective responsibility.
He also urged parents and teachers to continuously encourage children to ask questions, share their views and take part in decision-making rather than suppressing their curiosity.
Referring to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Governor said the country is moving quickly toward the national goal of 'Viksit Bharat@2047'. To reach this target, he said, nurturing an educated, healthy, skilled and confident younger generation is the top priority. He inspired the young journalists to set ambitious goals and pursue them with sustained hard work.
