Jharkhand Government Faces Court Notice After Alleged Bribery in Exams

Ranchi – The Supreme Court has issued a formal notice to the Jharkhand government after a petition alleged that bribery and favoritism tainted the JPSSC and JSSC appointment examinations. The petition, presented by activist Harisharan Devgan, claims that monetary exchanges enabled unqualified aspirants to secure government jobs.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohanan, examined the request for a CBI-led inquiry. The petitioner argued that the state’s unwillingness to sanction a central probe necessitates an independent investigation to protect the integrity of the recruitment process.

Evidence cited in the petition includes the cancellation of 22 recruitment exams and the suspension of six others after CID uncovered irregularities. The petitioner’s counsel, Satyam Rajput, maintained that a departmental inquiry would not be enough to address the widespread allegations.

The court’s decision to serve notices marks a critical juncture, with the Jharkhand administration and other respondents expected to submit their replies in the upcoming session.
