Jayaram Ramesh says central minister likely to re‑introduce controversial amendment
Congress communication chief Jayaram Ramesh told reporters that the Home Minister is set to table the contentious amendment again after his defeat on April 17. Ramesh stressed that the party has consistently opposed the bill and will not change its stance.
He noted that the amendment, which sparked a united opposition vote that embarrassed the government, remains a flashpoint. Ramesh added that the party is actively reaching out to regional parties and allies such as the DMK, Shiv Sena (Uddhav) and others to keep the opposition bloc intact.
According to Ramesh, the government's claim of moving toward a two‑thirds majority is far from reality, especially in the Lok Sabha where it lacks the numbers to achieve that threshold.
