Javadhu Hills Road Projects: 92 km of Villages to Get Improved Connectivity

The Tamil Nadu government has pledged over 40 crore rupees to revamp road infrastructure in the Javadhu Hills, as disclosed by Minister N. Anand in the state assembly. The initiative targets two legislative segments – Kalasapakkam and Chengam – that together encompass the hilly terrain of Tiruvannamalai district.

Kalasapakkam records 67 village roads extending 92 km. Of these, 27 roads (32 km) are already in satisfactory condition following earlier schemes, and 7 km of seven roads are currently being upgraded. The remaining 34 roads, covering 53 km, are slated for reconstruction at an estimated budget of 29.58 crore rupees.

In Chengam, there are 42 roads over 60 km. Eighteen roads (33 km) have previously been improved, while eight roads (8 km) are under active upgrade. The outstanding 16 roads, totaling 19 km, will need a further investment of 10.41 crore rupees. Twelve forest‑department roads (11 km) are pending central clearance; once approved, they will be incorporated into the 2026‑27 development schedule. The plan aims to link remote hill settlements with all‑weather roads, reducing travel difficulties for residents.
