Historic pandal tradition in Jamshedpur dates back over a century

Jamshedpur’s public Durga Puja celebrations can be traced to more than 110 years ago. The very first pandal was erected near the Kalimati railway station, now known as Tatanagar station.

Since then, the practice of building temporary structures for the worship of Goddess Durga has become an integral part of the city’s cultural fabric. Generations have carried forward the custom, enriching it with modern décor while preserving the core religious rites.

This deep-rooted heritage continues to draw thousands each year, reinforcing Jamshedpur’s reputation as a major hub for Durga Puja festivities.
