Jammu‑Kashmir Police SOP Unit Reports Gun Accident

A gun accident involving a Special Operations Group (SOG) member was reported on Friday in Anantnag’s Kokernag region. The soldier’s service rifle misfired, hitting his leg. Identified as Mohammad Altaf Khan, the son of Habibullah Khan, he received primary medical attention at the sub‑district hospital before being transferred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag. The SOG, a highly trained tactical force of about 4,000 personnel drawn from the JKP’s 100,000‑strong workforce, specializes in anti‑terrorism, insurgency suppression, hostage rescue, and crisis management in challenging terrains.
