Residents of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir were jolted awake by a moderate 4.6 magnitude earthquake early Sunday. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the quake occurred at precisely 4:32 AM, with its epicenter in the district.

In a sigh of relief, preliminary reports indicate zero loss of life or property. The administration has activated emergency protocols, deploying teams to assess any structural vulnerabilities. ‘We’re on high alert and request public cooperation in staying safe,’ a senior official stated.

Doda’s history with earthquakes is well-documented. A comparable 4.2 tremor on March 1, 2026, similarly spared lives but heightened fears. Recent seismic activity nationwide, including Delhi-NCR, points to active fault lines.

Adding to the seismic bulletin, Maharashtra’s Hingoli district endured a 4.7 magnitude shake on Saturday morning at 8:45 AM. The epicenter lay 10 km deep near Shirli village in Vasmat tehsil. Cracks appeared in buildings in Panga Shinde, extending effects to Nanded and Parbhani districts. District Collector Rahul Gupta confirmed minor damages but emphasized, ‘No injuries reported.’

Seismologists attribute these events to India’s position on multiple tectonic plates. Preparedness is key: identify safe spots in homes, secure heavy objects, and know evacuation routes. As investigations continue, the focus remains on community resilience amid rising geological risks.
