Jamia Slogans Row: VHP Calls for Action, Questions Congress
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has launched a sharp attack over controversial slogans reportedly found on the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia University in the national capital. National spokesperson Vinod Bansal has called for strict action against the people responsible and has also targeted Congress and INDIA alliance leaders over their alleged political support for Sharjeel Imam.
Bansal said the slogans, which were reportedly written in support of a person currently in jail and against the government, are unacceptable. He described Jamia Millia Islamia as a reputed central university whose atmosphere has come under scrutiny once again.
He noted that for several years, efforts have been made to damage the image of the institution. In his view, the recent incident has raised fresh questions about the environment on the campus and the conduct of some groups within it.
The VHP spokesperson objected to the 'Free Kashmir' slogan, affirming that Kashmir is an inseparable part of India and will remain so. He also mentioned slogans such as 'Go Back RSS' and 'Go Back VC' that he said were visible on the campus. Bansal maintained that mere sloganeering cannot result in the removal of any person.
He urged the university administration to identify those who, according to him, are promoting an anti-national mindset and to act against them. He also stressed the need for immediate steps to maintain discipline on the campus.
Bansal accused Congress leaders of making political statements in favour of Sharjeel Imam and said it was unfortunate to keep glorifying a person who is in jail. He alleged that Congress and INDIA alliance leaders were giving political protection and support to such individuals.
According to him, activities that raise questions about the Constitution, democracy and the judicial system must be treated seriously. He also questioned whether an accused person should gain support through political pressure.
Bansal directly asked Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge whether they agreed with the alleged statements of their leaders. He demanded that the Congress clarify its stance on the matter and apologise.
