Jamia Protest Escalates as Congress MP Imran Masood Held

Tension intensified at Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi on Friday, as police deployed heavy forces outside the campus amid reports that “Free Kashmir” slogans had allegedly been written within the university premises. Additional security measures were put in place to maintain law and order and to handle any untoward situation.

Congress MP Imran Masood was detained by the Delhi Police after he arrived at the university. He had travelled to the campus to take part in a protest by Jamia students demanding the restoration of student union elections and to stand in solidarity with them.

Ahead of his detention, Masood spoke in favour of the students’ demands, calling them completely legitimate. He also raised a pointed question about why the students’ union had not been restored.

“Students are the future of this nation. Why is someone trying to crush the future of the country? Why is the students’ union not being started again?” he asked.

Masood was also firm in clarifying his position on anti-India slogans. He stated, “We will never support anyone who talks about breaking India, under any circumstances. Kashmir is an integral part of India and will remain so forever. These posters and slogans are being used to mislead and divert this movement.”

He maintained that the rights of students were being suppressed. Masood alleged that students had been expelled from the university and that the students’ union was not being brought back.

“I would even give my life for my children. These students are my children and the future of my country. Their rights are being suppressed. Why is the students’ union not being restored?” he said.

Police presence has now been enhanced on the university campus and in surrounding localities. The students’ protest demanding the restoration of the union continues, and law enforcement agencies are keeping a watchful eye on the situation.
