Jaipur Hospital Guards Bishnoi Nephew After 16-Day Food Refusal

Authorities in Rajasthan have moved gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's nephew to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Jaipur after he went 16 consecutive days without eating.

Armed police have been stationed outside the prisoner ward to maintain security. Jail Superintendent Paras Jangid confirmed the hospitalisation and said senior officials had been briefed on the situation.

The nephew, Sachin alias Sandeep, reportedly began refusing meals on October 5. Despite daily food being provided by the jail, he did not accept it. The reason for this extended refusal has not yet been clarified.

According to officials, Sachin neither filed a written request regarding his hunger strike nor raised any specific demand with the jail administration.

Sachin originally belongs to Dutarawali village in the Bahawala area of Fazilka district, Punjab. In May 2024, he was moved from Jodhpur Central Jail to the high-security jail in Ajmer. At first, he was kept with other inmates associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, following an incident in which barrack CCTV cameras were damaged, he and his associates were relocated to separate wards.

He initially told jail officials that he was keeping a Navratri fast. Nonetheless, he did not resume regular eating after the nine-day festival ended. In the interim, he obtained fruits and other items from the jail canteen, requested items for Navratri worship and was allegedly observing a silence vow. During this time, his lawyer also met him.

It is still not known why he is avoiding food, and the jail administration has not shared any formal demand made by him.
