Jahangirpuri House Fire Caused by Son Under Influence of Alcohol
Police in Delhi are investigating a fire at a home in Jahangirpuri that was allegedly set by a son who was under the influence of alcohol. The blaze, which broke out on Friday, injured a firefighter when a gas cylinder burst while rescue work was underway.
A PCR call was received by police at 11:26 am, reporting a fire on the ground floor of house E-1756 in the Jahangirpuri area. Police and fire service personnel rushed to the site, and three fire engines were pressed into service to contain the flames.
As firefighters fought to extinguish the fire, a gas cylinder exploded, creating panic among residents of the locality. Officials said that a firefighter sustained burn injuries in the blast. People in nearby houses fled to safer spots as the explosion caused alarm in the area.
The early investigation pointed to Bharat, 30, son of Indrajeet, who lives at the same address. He is reportedly known to consume alcohol and is alleged to have started the fire inside his home. His mother, Raj Rani, wife of Indrajeet, was inside the house during the incident.
The injured firefighter, Ankit, 32, suffered minor burns to his face, hair and both hands. He was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, from where he was referred to AIIMS for further care.
An FIR is being registered against Bharat at the Jahangirpuri police station, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Jahangirpuri fire came shortly after another fire at North Block, a historic administrative building on Raisina Hill in New Delhi. Dense black smoke was seen billowing from that site as well, prompting a quick response from the Delhi Fire Service. Officials had said that fire was extinguished and no casualties were reported.
