Jagan Accuses Naidu Govt of Neglecting Preethi Case

Andhra Pradesh’s former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition government of deliberately ignoring the nine-year-old rape and murder case of schoolgirl Sugali Preethi. The parents of the victim met Reddy at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli and appealed for renewed efforts to secure justice. Reddy reminded the public that during his government’s term, a dedicated SIT was formed, scientific evidence including DNA profiling was collected, and the CBI was tasked with the investigation following the family’s plea. The parents received land, a house site, and employment as rehabilitation measures. He claimed that since Naidu returned to power, the case has been pushed into the background. The government has not provided the necessary support to the CBI, which recently stated it lacks adequate resources to proceed effectively. Reddy also highlighted that the family’s pension was stopped allegedly because they continue to question the government’s inaction. The former Chief Minister pledged that the YSRCP will stand by the family and provide complete legal assistance until the case reaches its logical conclusion. He questioned how the state can remain a mute spectator when strong evidence already exists.
