Jadavpur University Probe Committee Faces Leadership Void After Refusal

The three‑member inquiry panel set up by Jadavpur University to examine recent ABVP‑SFI clashes is currently leaderless. The committee’s chair, former OPU Vice‑Chancellor Shubha Shankar Sarkar, emailed the administration stating she does not wish to preside over the investigation.

Other members include Vice‑Chancellor Arunashish Goswami of Babasaheb Ambedkar Education University and IQAC Director Soumendu Chattopadhyay from Presidency University. With the chair’s withdrawal, the university must decide whether to appoint a new head in place of Sarkar or to dissolve the existing panel and create a fresh committee with new members.

The unresolved status of the probe adds another layer of tension ahead of the ABVP rally scheduled for Monday, which will travel from Dhakuria Crossing to the Jadavpur 8B bus stand.
