Bengaluru’s Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) has scripted history by securing ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for its clinical lab in biochemistry and hematology, emerging as the trailblazer among CCRAS institutes. This breakthrough from the Ministry of AYUSH elevates India’s Ayurvedic sector to international quality paradigms, ensuring diagnostics that patients can truly rely on.

From modest NABL beginnings, CARI’s lab has transformed into an excellence hub, delivering accurate and secure test results. Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav emphasized how this certification empowers precise diagnostics, vital for effective therapies and fostering confidence in AYUSH systems.

AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha called it a game-changer, forging stronger links between age-old Ayurveda and contemporary lab technology. It fortifies research-driven care and patient-focused innovations. Director General Rabinarayan Acharya highlighted prior NABL and NABH accreditations, affirming CARI’s ascent to elite scientific standards.

Institute Director Dr. Sulochana Bhat attributed success to collective dedication, spotlighting Dr. Vidya Shri Anchan’s team’s role. Accredited for 50 key tests—from glucose and HbA1c to comprehensive organ profiles and blood counts—the lab handled 1.52 lakh-plus investigations in 2025-26 for over 9,300 outpatients.

Digital innovations streamline report delivery through SMS, email, and WhatsApp. OPD footfall exploded from under 19,000 in 2021 to 51,300 by 2026; tests rose dramatically from 2,770 to 1.55 lakh; therapies like Panchakarma saw 20x growth. Inpatient wards, operational since mid-2024, remain packed, signaling robust public faith.

CARI’s medicinal plant labs further amplify its impact. Upgraded via AYUSH’s Centre of Excellence initiative from a rudimentary setup, the lab clinched NABL entry certification in late 2022 before conquering ISO rigors. This accolade not only validates CARI’s prowess but heralds a new era where Ayurveda meets global diagnostic excellence, benefiting millions seeking holistic health solutions.
