Investigation Update: 1,000 Pages Reviewed as CBI Pursues Justice
The Central Bureau of Investigation released a status briefing on Thursday, outlining the progress of its renewed probe into the RG Kar Medical College rape‑murder case. Under the supervision of newly appointed officer Sangdhipni Garg, the team is scrutinising over a thousand pages of evidence, statements, and forensic reports. Both parents of the slain junior doctor have been recorded, and the victim’s mother was personally approached by Garg at the Siadalah court hearing. The case dates back to August 8, 2024, when the doctor’s body was discovered in an on‑campus seminar room after a night of extreme violence. Initial police work led to the arrest of volunteer Sanjay Roy, but the Calcutta High Court later transferred investigative authority to the CBI. While Roy has been sentenced to life imprisonment, the family alleges that additional accomplices remain at large, a claim that prompted the High Court earlier this year to order a fresh examination of all leads.
