Investigation Reveals Fake Moving Company Duped Customers Across States

NEW DELHI, August 1 — An extensive probe by Delhi authorities has exposed a counterfeit packing and moving company that defrauded clients in multiple states. The operation, masquerading as a legitimate service, collected household goods, held them hostage and sought additional payments before any delivery could be made.

The fraud was reported on July 12 when a resident of Lakshmi Nagar lodged an e‑FIR citing sections 305 and 3(5) of the IPC. The complainant had hired Space Logistics Packers & Movers to shift his possessions from Delhi to Bihar. After picking up the items on July 1 and July 8, the movers demanded an extra ₹20,000.

Although the victim paid an upfront ₹500 and later transferred ₹19,500, the movers failed to deliver the goods nor return the money. The investigation was assigned to Head Constable Manoj Khari, who assembled a dedicated unit under senior police oversight.

Through electronic tracing and digital forensics, investigators identified 26‑year‑old Ajay Kumar Singh of Vishnu Garden, Gurugram, as the prime suspect. A search of his premises yielded fifteen cartons filled with a refrigerator, washing machine, LCD television, cookware, and other household articles. These items have been confiscated pursuant to court orders.

Further digging revealed that Singh is also wanted in a prior case registered at Shakarapur police station, charged under section 316(2) of the IPC. Authorities are now broadening their sweep to locate additional operators who may be exploiting similar scams.
