Investigation Reveals Details of ATM Card Hijacking Ring

Police from Sector‑113, Noida, disclosed the modus operandi of an ATM hijacking gang that trapped cards, recorded PINs and withdrew cash. The suspects received a tip on September 4, 2026, leading to a raid near Vedwan Park where three members were apprehended.

During interrogation, the accused explained that they coated the card slot with adhesive, causing the card to jam. One member stayed inside the ATM compartment to watch the PIN entry, while another watched from a concealed position. The trapped card was later extracted with the aid of a plier and a kitchen knife, destroyed, and the PIN was reused at a different ATM to obtain cash.

Recovered evidence included a plastic strip, two knives, a white bag, two cell phones and a modest sum of cash. The three men—Mahadev Halder, Sabir and Abid—have previous charges ranging from assault to theft under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and related statutes. The investigation remains open to identify additional crimes linked to the gang.
