Investigation Launched into Elephant Incident that Claimed Life of Vijay Holkar

Police have opened a formal investigation after the deadly encounter between a wild elephant and auto‑rickshaw driver Vijay Holkar in Indore’s Chandni Nagar neighbourhood. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotia confirmed that the handler of the elephant, along with his companions, fled the scene soon after the crash was captured on CCTV. The police have detained the handler for questioning and indicated that a case could be filed for transporting a wild animal without permission into a residential zone. The inquiry will also examine whether the monk who brought the elephant complied with wildlife regulations.
