Investigation Launched After Inspector Allegedly Blackmailed Businessman Over 2024 Murder Case
Chennai authorities have detained Police Inspector Mohammad Bukhari following allegations that he blackmailed a local trader, Anil Kumar, for large sums of money. The inspector is accused of threatening to frame Kumar in the 2024 murder investigation of BSP leader K. Armstrong, a case currently being examined by the CBI.
Kumar, who works as a stock‑market trader, reported that the extortion began two years ago and intensified when Bukhari demanded five lakh rupees at the trader’s residence. The inspector allegedly used the victim’s mobile number—linked to the Armstrong murder probe—as a tool to coerce payment. After the demand, Kumar handed the cash to police officers stationed near Washermanpet Metro station.
Following the complaint, senior police officials initiated a probe, resulting in Bukhari’s arrest. The ongoing investigation seeks to determine whether other officers were complicit in the extortion, while the CBI proceeds with its separate murder case investigation.
