Investigation Launched into Lack of Independence Day Programs in Frontier Schools

Following a series of grievances, the National Human Rights Commission initiated an inquiry into alleged omissions of Independence Day ceremonies in Punjab’s border and remote government schools. The bench seeks to determine whether geographic isolation resulted in unequal access to national celebrations.

The enquiry will compare participation levels of students from marginalized regions with those in more accessible districts. It will also assess whether the absence of flag‑hoisting, anthem rendition and cultural programmes compromised the children’s civic education.

The NHRC has mandated the state’s education department to furnish detailed records for August 15, 2026, and to explain any disparities. Findings will be forwarded to both the state and central governments for corrective action.
