Investigation Continues into Haldi Water Road Cleanup After Dalit Protest

Siddipet authorities are expanding their probe into the use of haldi‑mixed water for a so‑called "purification" of streets on September 9. The act was carried out shortly after Dalit groups and Congress activists demonstrated against alleged slurs by two BRS MLAs.

Video footage showed the participants spraying bright yellow water on the exact pathways traversed by protestors. The incident ignited a political controversy, with opposition leaders demanding strict action.

Forensic teams have gathered samples from the sprayed areas, and detectives are mapping the network of participants. One suspect was located via his mobile phone and apprehended at a lodge in Vijayawada.

The seven accused have been handed over to the magistrate, who ordered a 14‑day judicial remand. They have since been moved to the Siddipet prison.

The investigation remains active as officials seek to determine whether the ritual was a political statement or a public‑health stunt.
