Investigation Launched After Four Workers Succumb to Toxic Gas in Gopalganj

A grim incident in Gopalganj’s Savanhi Gopal village left four laborers dead after they were overcome by toxic fumes inside a septic tank on August 29. The men were attempting to open a suttering when one became trapped, prompting three others to enter the confined space in a rescue attempt. All four collapsed and could not be revived.

Authorities suspect that a buildup of hazardous gas caused rapid asphyxiation. The deceased have been identified as Rakesh (Banti Baith), Javed Alam (Tipu), Umesh Yadav, and Shabe Alam, all locals of the same settlement. The community is in mourning, with many gathering at the site.

A special investigation team has been formed to scrutinize the construction practices, safety equipment, and emergency response measures. The probe will also verify whether workers received adequate training and protective gear before entering the tank.
