Investigation Shifts Focus to Possible Pre‑Planned Conspiracy

The Kerala police investigation into the attack on Enforcement Directorate officials has moved beyond the immediate incident to examine the likelihood of an orchestrated conspiracy. After a raid at opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan's residence, ED officers faced hostility from party supporters while trying to leave the site.

Senior CPI(M) figures, including state secretary M.V. Govindan, Rajya Sabha member John Brittas and legislator V. Joy, have been issued notices to appear before the probe team. Police also intend to summon former legislators and other senior party functionaries for questioning.

The ED team was present to interrogate Vijayan's daughter, Vina, concerning the controversial CMRL‑Exalogic financial transaction case. The subsequent confrontation resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals and sparked a wider political controversy.

Although several accused obtained bail from the Kerala High Court in late May, investigators are now probing whether the violent outbreak was pre‑meditated. The enquiry seeks to determine if party workers were mobilised in advance to block or assault the central agency officers after the search concluded.

On Thursday, five young CPI(M) leaders are slated for interrogation, and authorities have set a target to complete questioning of all notice‑recipients within three weeks, aiming to uncover any underlying coordinated plan.
