Investigation Reveals Possible Embezzlement in Dehra Grant Scheme, Ex-MLA Named
Recent inquiries by Himachal Pradesh’s vigilance officials have uncovered what appears to be a systematic diversion of grant money in the Dehra constituency. The probe has centered on former legislator Hoshiar Singh Chambyal after a formal grievance was lodged by employees of his private firm.
The audit of bank ledgers, grant allocations, and statements from alleged recipients showed that disbursements were made in 2023 and 2024 for individuals who never applied for the programme. Those beneficiaries later reported that the cash was handed over to Chambyal following his direction.
Evidence gathered suggests that public funds were channeled away from their designated objectives, constituting a breach of trust and possible fraud. Consequently, the police recorded an FIR and initiated a criminal investigation in accordance with anti‑corruption statutes.
Investigators have emphasized that the process will be fully transparent, anchored in documentary proof, and will consider any additional offences that may surface under the Prevention of Corruption Act and related legislation.
