Investigation Continues into Death of Bizanbandhu Bag, TMC Accuses BJP

Law enforcement agencies are probing the fatal assault on Bizanbandhu Bag, the former head of a gram panchayat in Patashpur‑Do, East Medinipur. Bag was reportedly seized by a group that confiscated his bike and forced him into a local timber mill, where he was allegedly held captive and subjected to physical abuse for several days. After a complaint from his family, police intervened, found Bag gravely injured, and transferred him to a super‑specialty hospital before moving him to a Kolkata medical centre, where he passed away on Saturday. The Trinamool Congress has branded the incident a politically motivated murder, implicating the BJP and its alleged supporters. Akhil Giri, a senior TMC leader, dismissed any financial dispute motive, insisting the case is purely political. The BJP has denied involvement, with district organizer Somnath Roy urging police to pursue any culpable individuals. Two suspects have been detained so far, and a post‑mortem is being conducted in Kolkata, with the remains expected to be handed over to Bag’s relatives on Monday.
