Investigation Launched After Seven Dead in Lakhisarai Temple Chaos

A sudden stampede outside the Ashok Dham temple in Lakhisarai, Bihar, claimed seven lives on August 17. The incident occurred after a power pole fell, prompting rumors of an electric shock that sent devotees into a frantic rush.

The crowd, already swollen by arrivals from two halted trains, surged past a makeshift barricade that broke under pressure. The collapse caused people to tumble over each other, resulting in multiple casualties.

District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar reported that officials had been monitoring the site since 3:30 p.m. and that emergency services, including ambulance units, were on standby. Medical personnel arrived promptly, and the injured were taken to hospitals for care.

The senior superintendent of police, Shivam Kumar, confirmed the death toll and emphasized that a thorough investigation will determine the precise cause of the tragedy. The temple premises have since returned to normal, with worshippers continuing rituals peacefully.
