Interstate Crime Crackdown: ATS Seizes Suspect in Punjab Shooting

The Gujarat Anti‑Terrorist Squad intensified its crackdown on interstate criminal networks by apprehending Sukvinder Singh, popularly known as Sukhi, who was wanted for a firing incident in Batala, Punjab. Intelligence gathered from multiple sources pinpointed his presence in the Palanpur area, prompting the formation of a dedicated raid team.

On the evening of August 22, the team, led by senior officers including D.S.P. Harsh Upadhyay and Inspector D.B. Prajapati, stormed Hotel Sunadha in Palanpur and secured the fugitive without incident. Sukhi was subsequently taken to the ATS office in Ahmedabad for questioning.

During the interrogation, Sukhi confirmed his involvement in a July 20 shooting near the grain mill of Mahadeep Singh, alongside three accomplices. He later moved to his aunt’s residence in Thikriwal, where he transferred his licensed .30‑06 rifle to his cousin. The suspect then traversed several states, staying in Kharar, Delhi, Hyderabad and Nanded before being captured.

Authorities note that Sukhi has a long record of violent crimes, including attempted murder, conspiracy and multiple violations of the Arms Act across both Punjab and Gujarat. The ATS has notified Punjab police and is arranging his handover to the Batala jurisdiction for further legal proceedings.
