International Pilgrims Among Missing Group in Nepal’s Devastating Flood

The flood swept away buildings and parts of the town, making it impossible to confirm how many survivors remain. Volunteers, a doctor and several Nepali guides travelling with the group are also in danger, as many of the guides' families live in the affected villages. Reports from both sides of the border indicate hundreds of people are missing in Nepal and Tibet, with the death toll now exceeding 160. Initial speculation linked the flood to an earthquake, but later scientific analysis points to a massive landslide or glacial lake outburst that released a torrent of water and debris.
