Indira Gandhi Remembered as Congress Leaders Pay Floral Tribute

Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was remembered with respect on her death anniversary as senior Congress leaders paid floral tributes at Shakti Sthal in New Delhi. The event drew Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge, among other party figures.

The leaders attended the programme held at the Indira Gandhi Memorial on Saturday morning. Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, were joined by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior colleagues.

At Shakti Sthal, the leaders laid floral wreaths in honour of Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her death anniversary.

Rahul Gandhi shared a childhood picture with his grandmother on X, accompanied by a prayer. He wrote that he was sitting in her lap, holding her hands and repeating the words after her. He quoted the prayer “Asato Ma Sad Gamaya, Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya. Mrityor Ma Amritam Gamaya, Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.” He also called the moment a gift he had never expected.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also posted a childhood photograph with Indira Gandhi and described her as a woman of extraordinary beauty and strength, comparing her to the sky, the ocean, the earth and fire.

Kharge chose to share a brief segment of a speech by Indira Gandhi. In it, she declared that her service to the nation would continue as long as she lived, and that the spirit of her sacrifice would keep India alive.

In his message, Kharge called Indira Gandhi the first woman Prime Minister of India and an inspiration to the party. He said her efforts to protect national unity, integrity and self-respect, and her role in shaping modern India, would live on in the national consciousness. He added that her courage remains a source of inspiration and her sacrifice an enduring memory.
