Indigenous weapons critical after Operation Sindoor, minister asserts

Operation Sindoor gave the world a clear view of India's indigenous defence technology, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on August 23. The operation demonstrated that locally developed weapon systems can match international standards.

Speaking at the launch of five defence projects in West Bengal, Singh urged the country to stop thinking about what to import and start focusing on what the global market wants to purchase from India.

He praised GRGRSE’s technical expertise and skilled workforce, noting that the shipyard is already building navy vessels and a dozen cargo ships for a German client. This aligns with the "Make in India, Make for the World" vision and showcases India's growing export potential.

"Self‑reliance is more than a slogan; it multiplies battlefield capability," Singh said, promising that laboratories, public enterprises and private partners will work together to outfit the armed forces with indigenous platforms.
