India’s VP highlights AI, quantum and biotech research at SRMIST

Chengalpattu – In his address to the 22nd graduating class of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan stressed the strategic importance of cutting‑edge research for India’s future.

He applauded SRMIST’s commitment to artificial intelligence, quantum technology, semiconductor innovation, robotics, biotechnology and sustainable development, describing these areas as the pillars that will shape tomorrow’s economies and social structures.

The Vice President noted that research attains its highest purpose only when it translates into solutions that benefit society, strengthen industry and support sustainable growth. He commended the institute’s efforts to turn laboratory discoveries into real‑world applications.

Radhakrishnan also revisited India’s vaccine diplomacy during the COVID‑19 pandemic, reminding the audience that India supplied vaccines to over 100 nations without commercialising humanitarian aid. He praised the nation’s stance on helping poorer countries when many Western nations fell short.

He gave an overview of the higher‑education expansion since 2014, mentioning the establishment of numerous IITs, IIITs, IISERs, AIIMS and other institutions, bringing the total number of universities to more than 1,425 and colleges to 54,000 across the country.

A special nod was given to the surge in women’s enrolment, which rose by 42.2 % over the past decade. He urged the graduates to embody the “Nation First” principle, to uphold constitutional values, respect diversity and prioritize the collective national interest over narrow self‑interest.
