India’s Northern Command Balances Ladakh Frontier and J&K Counter‑Terror Ops
The Northern Command, responsible for safeguarding India’s high‑altitude borders, proved its versatility during Operation Sindoor. Under Lt Gen Prateek Sharma’s leadership, the command struck seven terror nests out of nine marked locations, using a mix of air power, missile salvos and ground forces.
Beyond the immediate operation, the command monitors a 832‑km stretch of the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, a 121.5‑km ground position line on the Siachen Glacier, and a 772‑km control corridor further down the glacier. Parallel to these border duties, the command conducts anti‑terror missions in Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on the Srinagar valley, Jammu district, Rajouri and nearby zones. Maintaining readiness across these zones remains a core challenge for senior officers and enlisted personnel alike.
