India's engineering exporters face 75% hurdles; EEPC proposes solutions

The EEPC reports that engineering goods – ranging from heavy machinery to precision components – represent approximately 27 percent of India’s total goods export basket. Yet, exporters repeatedly encounter non‑tariff obstacles that raise costs more than traditional tariffs.

By targeting these barriers and introducing efficient local‑currency payment gateways, the council believes Indian manufacturers can enhance their market share in key BRICS destinations such as Brazil, China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. EEPC’s data shows that the country’s engineering export value has risen from a modest $10 million in the 1950s to over $122 billion in the 2025‑26 fiscal year.
