Special Indian Team in Kathmandu Works to Locate Uncontacted Travelers

In response to the severe flooding that hit the Nepal‑Tibet border on August 26, a dedicated Indian task force has been stationed in Kathmandu to identify and reach out to Maharashtrian citizens who remain out of contact. The Maharashtra Disaster Management Department has highlighted that 67 people are still missing from the total of 405 affected travelers. So far, 262 have been safely escorted back, and 76 others have been confirmed alive after being contacted. The central government’s special team, working under the guidance of India’s ambassador to Nepal, is employing all available resources to locate the missing individuals. Instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasize removing bureaucratic hurdles and providing comprehensive assistance to the stranded. Despite these measures, a cohort of 60 tourists who booked through Richa Tours Private Limited and seven additional registrants from an online link have not yet responded to outreach attempts. Ongoing investigative steps aim to determine their precise whereabouts. The state’s chief ministerial office remains vigilant, coordinating with disaster agencies to ensure a smooth and secure repatriation of every affected citizen. Earlier evacuations saw 37 people rescued near the Manasarovar area of Tibet airlifted to Mumbai, and 105 travelers returned to Nagpur.
