Indian Navy on High Alert Amid Severe Downpour, Ready to Assist State

With the monsoon delivering relentless rain over Maharashtra, the Western Naval Command has been placed on high alert. The Indian Navy announced its full readiness to provide assistance to the state administration upon request.

The navy’s alert status complements the ongoing NDRF operations, offering logistical support, aerial reconnaissance and potential evacuation resources if the situation deteriorates further. Officials say the navy is prepared to mobilise assets at short notice to aid in flood‑relief and rescue missions.

Minister Girish Mahajan reiterated the need for public cooperation, emphasizing that the authorities are coordinating closely with both the NDRF and the navy to mitigate the impact of the extreme weather. He warned that non‑compliance with official directives could attract stringent penalties.

Red alerts remain in effect for several districts, with wind speeds expected to peak between 80 and 90 km/h, increasing the risk of structural damage and uprooted trees across the region.
