Indian High Commission Works to Identify and Repatriate Deceased

The Indian High Commission in Wellington received an official report from New Zealand police regarding the fatal road accident involving a possible Indian national. The police noted that facial injuries prevented visual identification and that no dental records or close relatives are present in the country to assist.

In response, the High Commission has launched a forensic identification process, including DNA testing, to confirm the victim's identity. Once the identity is verified, the commission will coordinate with New Zealand authorities to release the body and arrange for its transport back to India.

Consular officials have assured that all procedural requirements will be met promptly, and they are prepared to provide logistical and financial support for the repatriation.
